This page is a way for me to keep you updated on the curriculum we are using. I have broken it down to the three major areas of our work day, and will add addition information as needed.
Being a Writer
This is the writing program we will be using this year. It focuses on harnessing students' creativity and writing skills, as well as social skills as students use partnerships to improve writing ability. Each day consists of a mini-lesson using a book to show examples of quality writing in the real world. Students are also given about 30 minutes of writing time a day. They will hear read alouds that relate to the different types of writing they will try in this first unit. This year our class will have Ms Scholz for reading. Right now they are talking about the different story elements, such as rising and falling actions, story climax, and protagonist and antagonist. Ms Scholz and I meet on a regular basis, and I will keep you updated as frequently as possible on what your child will be doing in reading class.

Science and Social Studies
We will be covering a LOT of topics this year in our science and social studies content time. We will be focusing on geography, reviewing the Revolutionary War, studying the Civil War and Westward Expansion, government, and briefly reviewing other past social studies topics. In science we will be working on force and motion, heredity, and scientific inquiry.
